Maine Classical Association Fall Meeting:
The Maine Classical Association Fall Meeting will be held on Saturday, November 7th, at Bowdoin College. We’ve got an excellent slate of speakers lined up at Bowdoin, including a student panel. We might even have time to visit the museum! More details concerning our speakers, schedule, and the registration process will follow. We look forward to seeing you and are continually honored by your commitment to the Classics and this association.
MCA Fall Greek Reading:
This Fall, on Saturday October 24th from 11am to 3pm, MCA will host its first ever Greek Reading (led by Ross Shaler) as a compliment to our popular Latin Readings, held each Summer. As with the Latin iterations, this event will be a low pressure reading group focused as much on friendly discussion and good food as on the syntax of the text. Feel free to prepare as much or a little as you want; you don’t even need to translate, if that is your comfort level. PLEASE REGISTER USING THIS FORM.
Pushing us out of our literary and syntactical comfort zones is one of the goals of these readings, and this year’s Polybios syllabus promises to challenge us both grammatically and intellectually. Selections are draw from the first book of the Histories and are intended to give us insight into Polybios’ historiographical method and highlight some of the most dramatic moments of the epic first clash between Rome and Carthage.
