Latin and Classics Teachers of Maine,
You are cordially invited to the Maine Classical Association Fall Meeting on
Saturday, November 8th, at Colby College.
This fall, our presenters will be taking their audience on a scholarly journey across the Ancient Mediterranean, diving into such places as Lydia, the ancient Peloponnese, and ancient Tuscany. Rebecca Frank, of Colby College, will lead us in reinterpreting King Croesos through her talk “A Strange Cauldron Boiling in Lydia: The Croesos logos Reinterpreted”. Stella Fritzell, PhD candidate at Bryn Mawr, will guide us through the courts of Argos in her talk “Maenad Invasions & Foundations: The Haliae and Argive Democracy”. A panel of Colby undergraduates will share their experiences and research in their shared presentation “The Excavations at Cosa and Gynecological Prescriptions in the Roman Empire”.
Refreshments begin at 8:30 and the meeting proper will commence at 9:00. Following lunch, we will have our business meeting, which everyone is welcome to attend but it is fine if you do not stay.
The fee for this spring’s meeting is $20 as well as for lunch/refreshments ($40 total). All costs are waived for first time guests! CEUs will be available for this event. Please RSVP by October 27th. We look forward to seeing you!
